Special Needs
Some children have more learning difficulties than others for a variety of reasons. Schools have a responsibility to identify and provide for the special needs of pupils at the school. All schools must have a policy for special needs and a designated teacher (the Special Needs Co-ordinator - SENCO ). If you have any concerns about your child you should discuss these with your child's teacher and/or the school head.
For a small number of children the school's resources may not be sufficient. Following assessment, a Statement of Special Educational Need may be issued specifying the provision required. This may take the form of additional support in a mainstream school, designated special provision attached to a mainstream school or a special school.
